BMW to Enter the WSBK in 2009

Since BMW’s announcement that they would enter the Superbike World Championship in 2009, the project has been gathering pace and race fans around the world have finally been able to see the tangible aspects of the project for the first time. The new BMW S 1000 RR, equipped with an Akrapovic exhaust, has been tested at various racetracks in Spain and Germany. The three riders, Steve Martin, Kevin Curtain and Jeremy McWilliams, said that the basics of the S 1000 RR are very good, that the engine has good power, that the chassis and suspension are working well and that the bike already has the fundamentals of a Superbike racer. That sentiment was echoed by BMW Motorrad Motorsport General Manager Berti Hauser, who pointed out: “If our project continues at this good a pace, I think we could surprise a few people next year.”
