He was joined for the podium celebrations by his team-mate Colin Edwards who finished third, and local hero Dani Pedrosa who gained second place in front of a record number of 138.000 spectators. The Kawasaki duo of Randy De Puniet and Olivier Jacque struggled with bike setting and traction problems and eventually finished on 13th and 18th place. Illmor GP team was not present in Jerez. They officially withdrawed from MotoGP until they will improve their race bikes.
