The former world champion is lining up one enviable success after another this year, maintaining his position at the very top of the overall points. Akrapovič was also at the top at Misano in the Superstock 1000 class.
We’re far from seeing the last of this experienced rider in the Superbike world championship. In the Italian round at the Misano World Circuit, Max Biaggi stood at the top of the podium both times: in the first race he crossed the finish line only 0.3 seconds ahead of Checa, and in the second he had a masterful 5.3-second advantage over Rea. In addition to Biaggi, whose Aprilia RSV4 is outfitted with an Akrapovič exhaust system, the guys on BMWs performed well among the other racers with the red scorpion on their exhausts. In the second race, the following racers roared past the checkered flag in third through sixth place: Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), and Ayrton Badovini and Michael Fabrizio (BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet).
In the overall points halfway through the season, Max Biaggi is in the lead with a 38.5-point advantage over Jonathan Rea.
The BMW Motorrad Italia Goldbet team also enjoyed a victory at Misano in the Superstock 1000 class, with Sylvain Barrier’s victory 0.137 seconds ahead of his teammate Lorenzo Baroni. Both ride a BMW S1000RR with an Akrapovič exhaust system. In the overall standings, Barrier holds first place and Baroni fifth.
