Two Third-Place Finishes for Smrž in Final Round of IDM Championship
20. September 2012
Quite a tumultuous season for the Yamaha Motor Deutschland Monster Energy team has concluded with a fine success in the last two races.

The eighth and final round of the open German superbike championship concluded last weekend, 15 and 16 September, at the Hockenheimring in Germany. The Akrapovič-sponsored Yamaha Motor Deutschland Monster Energy team had an interesting year, filled with victories as well as numerous dropouts, but they finished the 2012 season with smiles on their faces. The main credit goes to Matěj Smrž, who finished both races in third place on his Yamaha YZF-R1 despite considerable wrist pain, earning 40 more points to clinch fifth place in the overall count for the championship, with a 13-point lag behind fourth-place Gareth Jones.

Right after the race, team owner Michael Galinski thanked the team members, participating partners, and of course Matěj Smrž, who showed that he’s got the right stuff to fight at the very top of the championship. Matěj, congratulations from us too and best of luck in 2013!
