At the Latvian race for the motocross world championship, Cairoli’s victory once again took him to the top of the points in the MX1 class. Second and third places in the MX2 class were taken by van Horebeek and Tixier.

After Antonio Cairoli finished without points twice in the previous round, leaving the overall lead to Clément Desalle on a Suzuki (both riders use Akrapovič exhaust systems), the Sicilian took control again last weekend in Latvia. He won the first race and took second place in the second, which was enough for an overall victory and for him to once again lead in the overall standings in the MX1 class.

The member of the Red Bull KTM Factory Team commented: “I’m really happy about my riding the whole weekend, which was good, apart from the last moto. I won the first race with a good gap but I had a scare after the crash in the second race, when I was in the lead. I had some pain in both of my wrists when I stood up from the crash but I put my head down and tried to make passes. I was feeling confident but I didn’t know what to expect about my wrist and I hope with this little injury I can train good for next weekend in Russia.”

In the MX2 class Jeffrey Herlings, who still has a commanding lead in the overall standings, barely finished seventh. His teammates Jeremy van Horebeek and Jordi Tixier did considerably better, taking second and third places.

The next race for the masters of dirt, mud, and sand will be next Sunday, 22 July, at the Russian GP.
