BSB Championship
Hill takes the lead in the standings
31. August 2011
Outstanding performances by both members of the Swan Yamaha team, Hill and Laverty, led to changes at the top of the British Superbike Championship standings.

Just three rounds to go before the conclusion of the British Superbike Championship, the list of top rankings has changed. Swan Yamaha team members Tommy Hill and Michael Laverty, both riding Yamaha R1s with Akrapovič exhaust systems, totally dominated all three races at Cadwell Park. In the opening race Laverty took first ahead of Hill and Shane Byrne (HM Plant Honda), who had been the championship leader up to that point, and in the second and third races Hill took the prize, securing the championship lead for himself.

Tommy Hill is satisfied with his success and that of his teammate: “It’s another fantastic result for Swan Yamaha and I knew it would be a long race, so to win that one was great and I’m really chuffed. I just rode my own race and it’s crucial to get every lap inch perfect here, but the boys kept the pressure on me throughout. In the final race I knew I had to try and make a move on Michael because I had unfinished business from yesterday’s red-flagged race, so I made a move because until then I hadn’t quite had the power to get ahead of him in the slipstream. I also did my fastest lap of the race with just two laps remaining, so I was even happier with that! My thanks have to go to the team as this has been a great weekend and now we have the lead going into the Showdown.”

Just three more rounds to go, and there’s only a 21-point spread between first and sixth places. Hill leads with 529 points, followed by Byrne (522), Hopkins (518), Laverty (510), Brookes (509), and Kiyonari (508). With the exception of the fifth-place racer, all of them are using Akrapovič exhaust systems. We’re proud of you, guys!

The battle for meters, hundredths of a second, and points continues on 10 and 11 September at Donington Park.
