Last year’s champion in the British Superbike Championship, Tommy Hill, stood on the podium twice last weekend at Brands Hatch Circuit, maintaining his lead in the overall standings.
In the seventh of twelve rounds of the fast-paced British championship, which is always exciting to the very end, Swan Yamaha team member Tommy Hill managed to finish in third place twice despite technical difficulties. Hill described the lively events at his home circuit: “In the first we had an issue with the clutch; on the sighting lap the rear locked up and I came back to the grid and the clutch went solid on me so I spent the first few laps trying to adjust the lever and there were riders coming past me from all directions. In race two I got stuck in with Shakey and Josh as they came back to me about halfway through the race but it was a bit of an elastic band effect and I was never close enough to make a pass. Everyone was riding hard and we are all riding at the top of our game, but all in all it wasn’t a bad weekend. We need to be consistently on the podium and we will raise our game and hopefully it will be our turn at Cadwell Park.”
This racer on a Yamaha YZF-R1 outfitted with an Akrapovič exhaust system was able to gather the most points in seven rounds, 11 more than Byrne (Kawasaki). The second-best racer with an Akrapovič exhaust system (on a Honda CBR 1000 RR), Michael Laverty (Samsung Honda), finished both races in fourth place—and also holds fourth position in overall points in the BSB championship.
The next race will be the last weekend of August at Cadwell Park Circuit.
