An Austrian has claimed the title in the EJC championship, in which all racers rode Austrian KTM 690 Dukes.
The 2012 Europe Junior Cup was held as part of the races for the World Superbike Championship held on European racetracks, and all the young racers competed on the same 690 cc KTM Dukes, outfitted with complete Akrapovič exhaust systems. The championship was exciting up until the very last race, in which both title contenders, Wimmer and García, fell but then continued the race even faster and ended up third and fourth.
After eight rounds, Austrian Lukas Wimmer racked up the majority of points (136) ahead of Spaniards Gastón García (111) and Javier Orellana (81).
Thirty racers 14 to 19 years old competed in the cup this year. The plan was to offer affordable racing for relaxation and training for young racers that competed together with the best racers at real events at real race circuits in the Superbike, Supersport, and Superstock classes.
