FMX jump with KTM 450 Rally

Rally racer Marc Coma and the U.S. Freestyle Motocross star Ronnie Renner had some time for fun after the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which they put to good use in the desert between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Coma rode the light motocross bike across the dunes, while the American took over the monster called the “450 Rally,” leading to some crazy photo ops.

After his successful 15-meter long and 6-meter high jump, the three-time Dakar winner said, “Normally, for us the important thing is keeping the bike in contact with the ground. The speed is what matters. That’s why it’s not usual for Rally riders to be jumping these heights and distances. Compared to a Freestyle bike, my bike weighs about a dozen kilos more than this. The tank alone can hold 40 liters.”

“That was really an eye-opener,” said Renner, happy that both bikes and bones were still in one piece: “I was able to take a spin on Marc’s bike and I’ve got to admit I must have looked pretty awful. The speed is incredible and the handling compared to a Freestyle bike is extremely hard. Taking this jump on a KTM Rally bike is phenomenal.”

As the photos show, the Akrapovič exhaust system also passed the test on the 450 Rally. Both the exhaust and the motorcycle were newly redesigned last year because the organizers of the fourteen-day rally in South America limited the engine size to 450 cc. This was no limitation for KTM, Akrapovič, or Coma, though: he won again.
