The leader remains the same after the third round of the Supercross series. Dungey is ecstatic about the team’s progress and the start of the season.
The third event of this year’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, which counts for the FIM World Championship, took place at a stadium in Los Angeles before a crowd of 35,000. During the twelfth lap the winner of the previous race, Ryan Dungey, moved up to third from fourth place after James Stewart’s fall, and by the end of the race he’d pulled ahead one more position to finish with a podium for the third time this year.
The Red Bull KTM Factory team member said: “It feels great to hold the red number plate as we head into the fourth round. It’s still early in the series, but it’s definitely off to a good start for the Red Bull/KTM Team. I can’t thank everybody on the team enough. They’ve put in so many hours and we’ve made so much progress on the new 450. The bike’s running amazingly.”
Akrapovič sport exhaust system development staff were also there to watch the race and discuss possible improvements to Dungey’s exhaust system with the KTM team. So far both the 23-year-old racer and the team are extremely satisfied with the progress made by their KTM SX-F 450 Factory Edition.
Just three laps before the end, the other member of the KTM team, Marvin Musquin, went too far into the mud after the triple jump and flew over the handlebars. He was unable to finish the race due to difficulty breathing. Despite his early exit, he still took nineteenth place in the Lites category, placing him seventh in the overall standings.
The fourth event of the 2012 season will be held 28 January in Oakland, California.
