Barrier Superstock 1000 Champion on BMW!
09. October 2012
BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Team member Sylvain Barrier finished the season at the top of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup with his S1000RR racing machine equipped with an Akrapovič exhaust system.

Only a few racing weekends ago, everything indicated that the white-blue team would end up at the top of the Superbike class, but that didn’t happen due to Marco Melandri’s unfortunate dropouts. In turn, the BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet team was more successful racking up the points over the 2012 season and, after taking second at the last race at Magny-Cours, team member Sylvain Barrier won the championship title in the Superstock 1000 class.

“I still can’t believe I won the title,” Sylvain commented excitedly at the last race on his home turf. “The hard work done with the team throughout the season has paid off, and I want to thank the guys, my family, James, the Clinica Mobile, and everyone who supported me during the year. It was a tough race, but I was feeling very comfortable on the bike from the warm-up. I rode very carefully on the first two laps because the rear tire wasn’t warmed up properly and also Eddi La Marra and Bryan Staring had already crashed. I tried to maintain the gap I had with the following riders and at the same I concentrated on making the tires work properly and didn’t push to the limit. It’s been a fabulous weekend and I’m over the moon!”

In this season, which included ten races, the twenty-three-year-old French racer racked up four wins and two second places, collecting a total of 153 points; 23 more than second-ranked Eddi La Marra.

In the manufacturers’ standings, BMW came in second behind Kawasaki and ahead of Ducati. This is a second title for the BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Team because Ayrton Badovini already won the Superstock 1000 title in 2010.

Congratulations to Sylvain and his team!
