Jorge Lorenzo secures the manufacturers’ 74th world title
The season-long partnership of technical expertise and consistency between Akrapovič – officially the number one choice for competition exhausts – and Yamaha Factory Racing paid off yesterday with Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo claiming the coveted MotoGP title for the second time. It was the Slovenian exhaust manufacturer’s 74th world title – and 13th this year – which capped off an extraordinarily successful racing season for them on two wheels.
The title is the icing on the cake in a motorsport season that has already seen Akrapovič-equipped machinery seal the Moto2 title with Marc Marquez and the Moto3 championship with Sandro Cortese. Earlier this month, Max Biaggi also claimed the Superbike World Championship on Akrapovič-supported machinery for the Aprilia Racing Team.
Off-road the success has been equally impressive, with KTM riders Tadeusz Blazusiak winning the Super Enduro title and Marc Coma the Cross Country Rally. There were clean sweeps in Enduro world titles, thanks to outstanding performances from Pierre-Alexandre Renet and Mathias Bellino aboard Husaberg machinery, and Antoine Meo and Christophe Nambotin on KTM.
World titles were also plentiful in Motocross thanks to the efforts of Akrapovič-equipped KTM competitors Tony Cairoli, Jeffrey Herlings and Matthias Walkner in MX1, MX2 and MX3.
The reasons why so many motorsport teams and competitors opt for Akrapovič are obvious; firstly the results throughout the years speak volumes. Secondly, performance gains, durability and light weight are important requisites for an exhaust and these come as standard from Akrapovič – care of extensive design, testing and quality manufacturing processes in high-tech, modern facilities.
Akrapovič Head of Racing R&D, Slavko Alojz Trstenjak, said: “2012 has been a fantastic year for us and our racing partners and we would like to congratulate them all for a very rewarding season. Crafting and developing the right equipment for each different type of machinery remains a passion for everyone working within the company and we believe that is what makes the difference in ensuring that we continue to produce world title-winning exhausts.”
Founder Igor Akrapovič adds: “As a former motorcycle racer, I understand the complexities that making a small change to the exhaust can mean to the whole machine and overall performance. Continual development with our racing partners is important to make sure that we are always providing the best exhausts in line with the changes that they make to the bikes and cars. Only by understanding this can we keep adding to our trophy cabinet and theirs.”
