Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey were invincible in the fifth round of the American Supercross series and attained a new milestone for Austrian KTM on American turf: the first double victory in the 250SX and 450SX classes!
In the fifth round of the American Supercross series, which took place at sold-out Angel Stadium in Anaheim, the members of the Red Bull KTM Factory team were in a class of their own. In the 250X West race, Ken Roczen improved on his excellent performance from the qualifiers. He was second going into the first turn, but then after a couple more turns he took the lead and continued to strengthen his advantage over his competitors for the remaining fifteen laps. He achieved his second victory this season and increased his overall advantage to twenty points.
“It’s so great to get up here and have my hard work finally pay off. My team and I have been working really hard this year to put our KTMs up front and in the championship hunt, and I feel like we’re in a good position. I can’t wait for the next race,” commented the young German after the race, which gave him plenty of motivation.
Due to technical problems in the afternoon qualifiers, followed by a group fall in the Last Chance Qualifier race, Ryan Dungey barely made it to the main event in the 450SX class. But as soon as the start gate opened, he proved that he and his KTM are a perfect match. He took the lead in the second lap and maintained his position with a comfortable margin to the end of the race. With his first win this year, he’s now fourteen points behind the overall leader, Davi Millsaps, who came in second this time.
Roczen and Dungey’s wins are also a victory for Akrapovič, which supplies exhausts for their orange rockets. Thank you for a wonderful weekend, guys, and all the best in the remaining twelve races!
The next race takes place on 9 February in San Diego.
