The third and fourth races of the World Enduro Championship took place in Vale de Cambra, Portugal, where racers with Akrapovič exhaust systems took several podium positions.

The Portuguese soil seemed to suit Johnny Aubert (KTM) best of all, because he won both Saturday’s and Sunday’s races in the competitive E2 class, taking the highest number of points possible. His KTM teammate, Spaniard Cristobal Guerrero, kept him company on the podium on Saturday, taking third place, and on Sunday the third-place position was occupied by Pierre-Alexandre Renet of the Husaberg team, which also uses Akrapovič exhaust systems.

Following his win on Saturday, Aubert remarked: “It was a very difficult day but it turned out perfect for me and for the team. The extreme tests were very hard but I didn’t make any mistakes.”

Following what the KTM Enduro factory team manager characterized as very difficult races, the Finn Eero Remes, who competes in the E1 class, took outstanding second and first places. A special award for fighting spirit has to go to David Knight, who badly injured his leg in the first race in Spain and therefore was riding under the influence of painkillers in Portugal.

Knight took first place on Saturday and second on Sunday: “I was first in all the tests but the Enduro was very difficult. There were deep ruts and lots of dust so it was hard to see. I think this was one of the hardest races I’ve ever had, especially in the last lap, when I started to stiffen up. I took some painkillers before the race but really had to dig deep to concentrate. Now I just have to get through tomorrow and I can rest up and decide what to do about the injury.”
